Agreement
THE ACTRA Toronto DIGITAL SELF-PROMOTION REGISTRY AGREEMENT
When an ACTRA member places the recording of a performance in which they appear on digital media for the purpose of attracting more business as an actor or performer, that is digital self-promotion.
A Digital Self-Promotion (DSP) piece may promote your skills beyond those covered by existing ACTRA agreements or guidelines. For example: short-duration, live stand-up, self-recorded singing or busking piece; a short-duration, self-recorded magic demonstration; or your recorded performance as an emcee for a live show.
A Digital Self-Promotion piece may also promote your film, television, radio, stunt or other performance skills through the use of original scenes, monologues, scripted material or clips.
Digital Self-Promotion pieces may also include scripted or unscripted performer-created podcasts where such podcast is not monetized. Monetization includes, but is not limited to, income generated through subscriptions or advertising. Each ACTRA Member appearing in a DSP shall ensure they are in good standing with the union and register such work on the Digital Self-Promotion Registry.
Digital Self-Promotion pieces may also include performer-created online projects for performer owned channels (including but not limited to YouTube or Twitch), provided such content is not monetized, or otherwise creates a production that is under the jurisdiction of an appropriate ACTRA agreement or guideline. An example of such channels includes ‘unboxing videos’ and personal opinion pieces.
Things to keep in mind:
- A Digital Self-Promotion piece must credit the ACTRA member(s) and lead the viewer to contact or booking information for the performer(s). Each ACTRA member participating in the DSP must register the piece via the registry.
- A Digital Self-Promotion piece may be up to five (5) minutes in length.
- Demo reels (clips) posted on personal or representative sites may be up to eight (8) minutes in length.
- Performer-created podcasts shall be no longer than 60 minutes in length, and pieces created for digital media channels (such as, but not limited to, YouTube or Twitch) shall be no longer than 30 minutes in length.
- You must be in good standing with ACTRA to use the registry.
- It is the performer’s responsibility to ensure their compliance with the agreements of other unions or guilds of which they are a member. It is the performer’s responsibility to clear all posted material with the copyright owner. Further, the performers who register material on the Digital Self-Promotion Registry accept all liability for all actions arising out of or are in any manner connected with their work.
- Self-promotional content will not be edited into another production, sold commercially, or generate any income without first being fully contracted under the appropriate ACTRA agreement.
- Work under the DSP does not create eligibility to join ACTRA.
- By checking the AGREE box on the Registry, you are declaring, in good faith, that your post is for the purpose of self-promotion and is not intended to be monetized.
- The registry is not and will not be used as a means to circumvent any of ACTRA’s hard-fought agreements.
- ACTRA TORONTO retains the right to interpret, oversee, amend or withdraw the terms of this agreement at any time.
